StreetLink Relaunch

The Department for Levelling Up Housing and Communities’ (DLUHC) strategy for ending rough sleeping, published in September 2022, includes a commitment to continued funding and improvements to StreetLink, reflecting advances in the technology and the aim of making it easier to use and improving the quality of referrals.

What is StreetLink?

StreetLink is a vital service in helping end rough sleeping and its purpose is to enable members of the public to connect people sleeping rough in England and Wales to local support that meets their needs.

Through StreetLink you can submit an alert about someone sleeping rough to local authorities and outreach teams so that they can locate and provide them with the support they need.

This includes anyone who is sleeping outside, preparing to bed down, or sleeping somewhere not designed for habitation, such as a car. Individuals sleeping rough can also submit an alert to get help for themselves.

How does it work?

To make an alert, follow these 3 simple steps:

1. Locate

Pinpoint a specific location of where you have seen the person sleeping rough using the map feature and include a written description of the location.

2. Describe

Provide details on the time the person was sleeping rough at the location and any further information about their appearance that can help identify them.

3. Submit

Once submitted, your alert goes to the local authority or outreach service in the area. You will receive an update within 10 working days if you have requested it.

What’s new and how can you support?

There’s a new website link where you access the platform from: thestreetlink.org.uk.

From now on you should use the new website link to make an alert about someone sleeping rough. Please note that the existing StreetLink app will no longer be in use.

You can help someone sleeping rough get the support they need or signpost people to the service so they can seek help for themselves from local services by making an alert through StreetLink.
