Malcolm Wilson Rally

22/02/2024

Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, Temporary Prohibition of Traffic Order 2023, Footpaths and Bridleways in Grizedale Forest, Whinlatter Forest, Wythop Woods and Broughton Moor

The Malcolm Wilson Rally will take place on Friday 8 March and Saturday 9 March 2024, one of two major rallies taking place in these forests each year.

As you may be aware, some of the rally’s “off-road” sections cross or follow public footpaths or bridleways. The Malcolm Wilson Rally’s route will affect rights of way in Whinlatter Forest, Wythop Woods and Grizedale Forest (west of the Hawkshead to Satterthwaite road).

In November last year I forwarded a copy of a closure order notice and accompanying plans showing the affected routes. The order is still in force and we intend to implement it on 8 and 9 March 2024 whilst the rally takes place. Affected rights of way in Whinlatter Forest will be closed on Friday 8 March from 00:01 for 24 hours, closures in Wythop Woods will be in effect from 12:00 noon on Friday 8 March through until 18:00 on Saturday 9 March and closures in Grizedale Forest (West) will be from 00:01 on Saturday 9 March for 24 hours. The public rights of way affected will be closed on these days but will be opened again as usual after the event has finished.

I attach a copy of the notice and the plans relating to this order. If you have any queries or concerns in the meantime, please let me know.
