DISRUPTION TO SOME GREEN BIN ROUNDS THIS SATURDAY

South Lakeland District Council (SLDC) is letting residents know about disruption to some green bin rounds following the bank holiday for Her Majesty The Queen’s State Funeral.

This week’s SLDC waste and recycling rounds are being carried out a day later than usual because of the bank holiday. Householders in Kendal, parts of rural Furness and the Storrs area of Windermere who would usually have had their green bins collected this Friday (23 September) will not have their garden waste collected during this Saturday’s catch-up round by SLDC. This is due to limited staff availability and the need to prioritise grey bin/recycling collections.

Councillor Eamonn Hennessy, SLDC portfolio holder for Customer and Locality Services, said: “The council apologises to those residents who will be affected by this Saturday’s cancellation of some green bin rounds. I know that many people will be disappointed at not having their garden waste collected at a time of year when there is still plenty to do in the garden.

“However, due to the short notice of the bank holiday announcement, we do not have a full complement of crew to work this Saturday. This means we will be using all available depot staff to prioritise grey bin/recycling collections, and I would like to thank all those colleagues who will be working on Saturday to help us catch up.”

If you live in one of the locations listed below and you would normally have had your green bin collected this Friday (23 September), please leave it out on your next scheduled collection date – however, your blue recycling bags/boxes CAN be left out for collection this Saturday:

  • Kendal – includes Kirkbarrow, Vicarage Road area, Stainbank Road area, Gillinggate, Bankfield area, Brigsteer Road area, Queen’s Road/Serpentine area, Waterside and town centre
  • Storrs area of Windermere
  • Grizebeck
  • Greenodd
  • Foxfield
  • Broughton-in-Furness
  • Kirkby-in-Furness.
