Closure of Ulverston Library

I am writing to advise you that a routine statutory check has identified serious issues with electrical services in Ulverston Library.

As a result the council has taken the decision to close the building with immediate effect from close of business today (Friday, 1 September).

This is to ensure the safety of our service users and staff while further investigations are carried out.

Library Services are now making arrangements for an alternative library service to be established in Ulverston as soon as possible.

In the meantime, the nearest alternative libraries are located at Grange and Barrow, with Library Links in Dalton and Broughton-in-Furness. We also have a digital library services on offer at:https://www.westmorlandandfurness.gov.uk/libraries-and-archives/cumbria-libraries/cumbria-libraries-online-catalogues

We are informing key stakeholders, including service users, members, town councillors and local community groups.

A news release will be issued shortly to local media and we will include information and updates on our social media channels.

Our apologies for the inconvenience and please be reassured that we are working hard to ensure Ulverston continues to have access to a library service as soon as possible.

We aim to be able to provide further updates early next week.
